About

Through a Dog’s Eyes is an exhibition that explores the difference between dog vision and human vision. Dogs have a different spectrum and they are red-green color blind. Things that are attractive for humans may not be attractive for dogs. However, there is no right definition or criteria for what is beautiful or not. It is the twist of perspectives and positioning that helps us understand each other better and makes our world more diverse and beautiful.

Curatorial Statemement

When talking about exhibitions, what comes into people’s minds are works of fine art, sculpture and photography, with an intended human audience. Humans create works of art for humans. Although the conceptual underpinnings of each work can range from provocative to stimulating to beautiful or educational, each piece is created in service to the human experience.  Our mission is to challenge human preconceptions about exhibitions and create cross-species understanding through the universal love between humans and dogs. Through a Dog’s Eyes targets man’s best friend -- a dog.

The curators are challenging artists to create experiential work for dogs.  Work that takes into consideration the biology of how dogs see and view the world.  Everything in the exhibition will be displayed at a height that is comfortable for the dog’s level of vision, with an accompanying translated version of the original work to be displayed at the human eye level. Differences between the two visual experiences will be discussed and humans can have fun by exploring these differences, while reinforcing our membership in the animal world while encouraging empathy and understanding for our dog friends.
